Coober Pedy Hybrid Renewable Power Station
EDL built, owns and operates the Coober Pedy Hybrid Renewable Power Station that uniquely combines 4MW wind generation, 1MW solar generation, a 1MW/500kWhr battery and other integration technologies. Since commencing operations in July 2017, the multi-award-winning power station has delivered lower-cost and more stable electricity (99.99% reliability) for the community at world-leading renewable energy penetration rates. It has also set a global benchmark for renewables in isolated grids and often operates on 100% renewables for long periods.
The power station is a blueprint for reliable, affordable and sustainable energy sources in remote areas, having decreased the town’s diesel use by over 70%. The remote mining town previously relied on diesel-fuelled generators for electricity, which are now only used occasionally for backup power.
