Umoona Art Centre (UAC) is an Indigenous-owned, governed, and
member-run commercial art studio located in the autonomous community of
Umoona on Antakirinja Matu-Yankunytjatjara Country, bordering Kupa Piti
(Coober Pedy) in South Australia. UAC is also part of the kinship
network of the APY Art Centre Collective, with sister art centres across
the APY Lands and gallery showrooms in Thebarton, Adelaide; Collingwood
Yards and Docklands, Melbourne; and Redfern, Sydney.
UAC supports the production, exhibition, critique, and collection of
Indigenous visual art by providing a culturally affirming,
professionally equipped environment where artists can develop their
practice across diverse mediums. Through professional development,
mentoring, and skills training, artists strengthen their technical,
creative, and administrative capacity while gaining the experience
needed to meet industry standards.
UAC facilitates exhibition opportunities across community, regional, and
national platforms, increasing the visibility and recognition of
artists’ work. The studio also supports ethical documentation, sales,
and collection processes to ensure artworks are respectfully managed and
appropriately acquired. By integrating studio support, exhibition
pathways, and ethical commercial practice, UAC enables artists to
sustain professional careers while maintaining cultural authority over
their work and strengthening a resilient Indigenous visual arts
ecosystem.
