Witjira National Park and The Simpson Desert – The 776,900ha Park is located 160km north of Oodnadatta. It features the Dalhousie Thermal Mound Springs, the largest, most active artesian springs in Australia as well as the Mt Dare homestead complex. The Parks mainly consist of desert landscapes, gibber plains, sand dunes, salt pans, flat-topped mesa hills and breakaway country. The turn off to the Park is 17km north of Oodnadatta and 4WD is recommended. A Desert Park’s Pass is required and the best time to visit is during the winter.
